Ipamorelin is a five-amino acid peptide (Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) that acts as a ghrelin analog, triggering the release of growth hormone (GH). It attaches to the ghrelin receptor, also known as the GH secretagogue receptor (GHSR), primarily in the brain, to selectively stimulate the pituitary gland to release GH. This leads to elevated levels of GH in the bloodstream, influencing various biological functions. GHSR receptors are not only located in the brain but also in other organs and tissues such as the digestive system, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, fat tissue, and immune cells. Unlike other peptides that induce GH release, Ipamorelin’s mechanism of action closely resembles that of natural growth hormone-releasing hormones.
